After the LG OEM Applications were posted on XDA a few days ago (thanks to fb401), I decided to see which one worked on my Omnia 7 with a little persuasion. Here’s my findings, with download links where appropiate. I’ll probably repeat this process for HTC Applications soon as well.
Look n Type:
Works fine, no bugs.
Photo Stylist:
Only worked for me after a restart of the
device. Strange, cannot find a reason for this to be the case. Still, worked as
expected without bugs after this.
ScanSearch:
Worked, for the most part, though it always
assumed I was facing east. It seems to pick up the orientation through a custom
property implemented in the camera driver, which isn’t present on other devices.
Also, didn’t pick up anything using Bing as my Information Provider, though that
might be because they don’t provide data for my area, I’m not sure.
Toolbox:
Works fine, no bugs, though seemed a little slow
and laggy at times.
Panorama Shot:
No chance. It relies on those
custom properties I mentioned in the ScanSearch section. I considered editing
them out, but since they are for orientation, it’d probably seriously hamper
it’s ability to stitch the photos together.
PlayTo:
Requires a missing
device driver. However, this was the only app to be signed by Microsoft IT, not
LG Electronics. Also suggested that I could obtain the device driver by updating
my copy of WP7 – suggesting there’s plans to provide DLNA functionality across
all devices? Warrants further investigation.
